Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Grahams and The Zevia Contest Winner

Who doesn’t love a good graham cracker? Whether alone or paired with chocolate and peanut butter, graham crackers are just awesome. These are something I had given up, along with most other packaged favorites because of the hydrogenated oils and slew of other unnecessary ingredients used to make such a simple treat.

Enter Annie’s Homegrown! Annie’s makes a variety of quality packaged foods using wholesome ingredients without sacrificing flavor…..I’d say their stuff tastes even better.

The ingredients for the Honey Bunny Grahams are: ORGANIC WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR, ORGANIC WHEAT FLOUR, ORGANIC CANE SUGAR, EXPELLER PRESSED VEGETABLE OIL (SAFFLOWER AND/OR SUNFLOWER), HONEY, ORGANIC CORN FLOUR, ORGANIC GRAHAM FLOUR, CALCIUM CARBONATE, SEA SALT, BAKING SODA, NATURAL VANILLA AND GRAHAM CRACKER FLAVOR.

Compare this to Nabisco’s Honey Maid Honey Graham’s ingredients: UNBLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE {VITAMIN B1}, RIBOFLAVIN {VITAMIN B2}, FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, GRAHAM FLOUR (WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR), SOYBEAN OIL AND/OR PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, HONEY, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA AND/OR CALCIUM PHOSPHATE), SALT, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SOY LECITHIN - AN EMULSIFIER, CORNSTARCH. CONTAINS: WHEAT, SOY.

For those that know me, they know how ridiculously picky I am on my food consumption. I will usually refrain from eating at restaurants just because I don’t know how the food is prepared or something along those lines. I’ll admit, I have a phobia on consuming food I can’t see being prepared or that doesn’t offer an ingredient label. Anyway, pickiness aside, Annie’s passes the test in my book for a great go-to snack that’s low on bad stuff and high in taste and quality. The Bunny Grahams contain ingredients that someone might use in their own kitchen to make homemade graham crackers. It’s common to find partially hydrogenated fats, high fructose corn syrup, soy lecithin, artificial flavor, etc. in most kitchens. What would you choose?

CAUTION! Kelley and I ordered a case of the Chocolate Bunny Grahams and it’s hard to stop once started. The boxes came and went faster than expected. So, everything in moderation……a little splurge every now and then is just fine, and Annie’s Bunny Graham’s are a perfect splurge snack. I enjoy mixing them with some pretzel pieces and almonds for a great sweet and salty snack with a little protein. They are also spectacular when crumbled on top of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. Put those Honey Maid’s down and pick up a box (or 12) of Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Grahams or any of their other products.

Congrats to Kelly M. from Fort Worth, TX for winning the contest for a 6-pack of Zevia coupon! I didn't really have too many comments posted, but hope to increase the exposure in the future.  Thank you to Katie and Kelley Liley for participating!  Zevia is a great substitute for those craving a cola but don’t want the empty calories for sugar/high fructose corn syrup or the crappy artificially sweetened sodas. I enjoy all of Zevia’s flavors with the Ginger Root Beer and Cream Soda at the top.

Thank you for all that read the blog; please pass it along to others you know that may be interested. I enjoy talking and blogging about food and hope to bring some good content in the future. Look out for the next contest!
