A foodie's quest to turn up the heat through strength and conditioning with whole food and a hungry mind.

How I Became a Foodie

Hi there, welcome to my blog!

After finishing my first marathon in 2005, I wanted to do another, and be faster. I read a book explaining the importance of nutrition and followed it's advice. After that, every marathon I ran was faster and I felt great. I qualified and ran the Boston Marathon which marked my ultimate marathon goal.

I continued reading about food and how important it is to our health. I'll admit I'm pretty picky about eating food I didn't cook or get myself, but it's worth it to me. Now I like to keep active and learn as much as I can about the effects of food in our bodies. I don't run as much anymore, but I like to keep fit with a variety of activities mixing strength and cardio. Food is my fuel for these activities that keep me going strong every day.

I work in accounting and the office atmosphere drives me crazy! If I hadn't stumbled into my extreme passion for food so late into finishing my finance degree, I would probably be going down a different career path.  To offset this, I requested to have a standing desk; now I'm the only person in my office who stands all day.  Too bad I can't get a request to work outside approved!  There are many sedentary people working office jobs, and I hope to help lead by example to encourage other to have a more active and healthy life.

Follow along as I post about my thoughts, recipes, ideas, and foodie life.  Feel free to leave comments or ask questions; I will make sure to respond as soon as possible!

Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Have you seen the documentary Forks Over Knives? I watched it recently and it sounds right up your alley! I'm trying to work on eating healthier and cooking my own food more, especially after watching that DVD and seeing how much what you eat really affects your health.

    1. Hi Kat! I have not seen that documentary, but I've watched others that helped solidify my reasons around a healthy lifestyle. I will look for Forks Over Knives and watch it soon, thanks for mentioning it...I love food docs!

If you're into reading, I'd recommend anything from Michael Pollan to help provide more insight on food and life.

It's great that you are taking a step in the right direction, please feel free to ask any questions when reading my blog and I'll find an answer for you.

Good luck on your changes, you'll feel the difference and never look back!

  4. Beautiful blog! I love it already. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog as well. I'm also very in to nutrition as well and I also distribute Juice Plus. Have you ever heard of it? Shoot me an email at nblankenship7789@gmail.com, because you seem to be the perfect candidate to be a distributor too! I'd love to chat with you about it
